YouthWorks Interns Volunteer at Project Open Hand

New at YouthWorks this session is an emphasis on service learning.  During the service learning workshop interns discussed the connection between volunteerism, public service and civic engagement. After brainstorming and sharing stories about the best and worst things about their communities, interns took action by writing a letter to their district supervisor to share their concerns.

On Saturday March 2nd a group of interns volunteered their time at Project Open Hand in the Tenderloin. Project Open Hand provides meals with love to seniors and the critically ill. Linda Rosa, Employment Coordinator, attended the volunteer event. “It was inspiring to see the youth volunteer and to know they are getting involved and want to help the community, even on a Saturday.” Interns got their hands dirty preparing food in the warehouse to be distributed to clients. The teens named them selves the fishstick’s and had a great time volunteering.
